After a day of walking around Hanoi: foot reflexology and neck–shoulder care
Updated October 10, 2026 · 3 min read
Hanoi is a walking city. Here's how to look after tired feet, legs, neck and shoulders in the evening, without leaving the place you're staying.

Why your body feels it after a day in Hanoi
A typical day in Hanoi means many kilometres on foot: the Old Quarter's narrow streets, a loop around Hoàn Kiếm Lake, the Temple of Literature, then a long walk around West Lake. Add uneven pavements, steps, heat and a backpack or camera bag, and by evening your feet ache and your shoulders feel tight.
If you've just arrived on a long flight, your legs may also feel heavy from hours of sitting. A massage at home in the evening is a simple way to unwind without heading back out into the traffic.
Foot soak and foot acupressure
This is the treatment most people want after a day of sightseeing. It starts with a warm herbal foot soak, which feels wonderful on its own. Then the therapist works through acupressure points on the soles and around the ankles, and finishes with a calf massage.
Many people find it eases the feeling of tired, heavy legs and helps them sleep better. You stay dressed and can sit in an armchair or on the sofa, so very little preparation is needed.

Neck, shoulder and upper back
Carrying a bag all day, looking down at maps on your phone, or long hours at a laptop all end up in the same place: the neck and shoulders. This focused treatment spends the whole session on the neck, shoulders and upper back, where most of that tension sits.
It's short enough to fit in before dinner or after a late arrival, and you can book it on its own or add a foot session another evening.

Sports massage for legs that worked hard
If you went running along West Lake, played a round of golf or did a long day trip with a lot of climbing, a sports massage may suit you better. It uses firm pressure on the large muscle groups of the legs, back and shoulders.
Tell the therapist which muscles feel tight and how firm you'd like it. If you prefer something more gentle, a Thai or aromatherapy oil massage also works well for the whole body.

Good timing in the evening
Most people like a session about an hour after dinner, once they've showered and changed. Starting between 20:00 and 21:00 means you finish relaxed and can go straight to bed.
Sessions between 22:00 and 06:00 carry a night surcharge of ₫50,000, shown in the app before you confirm. If you know you'll be back late, schedule the booking in advance so a therapist is lined up for you.
Afterwards: water and rest
A few simple habits help you get the most from your session.
- Drink a glass or two of water after the massage, especially on hot days.
- Avoid a heavy meal or alcohol right before the session.
- Take a warm shower afterwards if you had oil, or wait until morning if you're sleepy.
- Keep the next morning's plans gentle if you had firm pressure.
