Hot stone massage at home in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City: by season, what to prepare, where people book
Updated November 2, 2026 · 3 min read
Warm stones along the back are a favourite in a Hanoi winter and after a day in a chilly air-conditioned office in Ho Chi Minh City. Here's when it suits, what to prepare at home and where people book most in both cities.

Why hot stones are popular in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City
Hanoi is chilly from about December to February, followed by weeks of damp, humid weather. Many homes have no heating, so it's easy to feel cold and hunch your shoulders. Warm basalt stones along the back heat you up slowly on days like these.
Ho Chi Minh City is warm all year, but a day in a strongly air-conditioned office can leave your back, hands and feet cold, and the rainy season from May to November brings plenty of soaked commutes. When it's hot outside but you feel chilled, warm stones with oil massage help the muscles let go.
Where people book most in Hanoi
MiMi takes bookings all over Hanoi; these areas book the most:
- West Lake (Tay Ho): around Xuan Dieu, Quang An and Ciputra, with many expat families in houses and apartments near the lake.
- Cau Giay – Trung Hoa: the apartment complexes around Tran Duy Hung, home to a large Korean community.
- My Dinh (Nam Tu Liem): Keangnam Landmark 72, The Manor and many office and apartment towers.
- Ba Dinh: around Kim Ma and Lieu Giai, with lots of after-work bookings.
- Royal City (Thanh Xuan) and Times City (Hai Ba Trung): large complexes, so include your tower and unit.
Where people book most in Ho Chi Minh City
MiMi takes bookings across many districts; these book the most:
- District 7 – Phu My Hung: many Korean families; include the estate and tower name.
- Binh Thanh: Vinhomes Central Park, Saigon Pearl and the riverside towers.
- Thao Dien – An Phu: riverside houses and apartments such as Masteri Thao Dien.
- District 1, District 3 and Phu Nhuan: lots of offices and evening bookings.
What to prepare at home
The therapist brings the stones and heater. You only need:
- A bed or mattress and 2–3 large towels that can get a little oil on them.
- A power socket near where you'll lie, for the stone heater.
- The right room temperature: warm the room first in a Hanoi winter; in Ho Chi Minh City, keep the air-con moderate, not cold.
- Children and pets kept away from the heater and stones.
- A bathroom nearby if you'd like to shower afterwards.
90 or 120 minutes, and when to choose something else
Hot stone massage comes in 90 minutes (₫550,000) and 120 minutes (₫690,000). 90 minutes covers the back, shoulders, legs and arms; choose 120 if you'd like extra time on areas that tense up often.
If you're pregnant, have areas with reduced sensation to heat, heart problems or unstable blood pressure, or broken skin or sunburn, skip the hot stones and ask your doctor first. An oil massage of 60 minutes (₫320,000) or a hot herbal compress massage of 75 minutes (₫450,000) are alternatives.
